Gold-Painted Stained Glass Cleans Air

pic nicked from here

Scientists have discovered that gold-painted stained glass windows are actually “a photocatalytic air purifier with nanostructured gold catalyst.“  That is, they clean the air.  And not just of the sulfurous reek of your sins but of real stuff too.  Like little chemical demons.

Besides the 110% Super-Lucky Jesus-Power found in church windows, there’s also tiny bits of gold.  These become very active under sunlight and break apart airborne pollutants.  This solar-powered process releases very small amounts of carbon dioxide as a side effect.  Much like Jesus himself.

It may, also, have the ability to drive other chemical processes, using that most abundant and cheap source of power — light. Once mastered, this would allow people to break up other chemicals quickly and efficiently; by only heating gold particles as opposed to a whole machine.  So, aside from purifying air, it could also split water for some sort of newfangled hydrogen engine.

If all that (plus your religious piety) isn’t reason enough for you to like stained glass, just look at this cute little owl lamp.

It looks good as it saves your life, the environment and everything else.  That is, if it’s painted with gold.  Maybe it’s not.  I have no idea.  For all I know, it just sits in a corner collecting dust.  But who cares?  It’s an owl.  That’s good enough for me.
